Our first full day in New York was jam-packed. But, let's be honest, we Willises don't know how to do it any other way! We played and ate and went sight-seeing and walked...and walked...and walked...and walked. It was awesome! Since we didn't have any set plans, we had the freedom to spend as much or as little time doing whatever we felt like. It was wonderful!
In the morning we walked to Times Square for Berkley to see it for the first time. We walked around briefly, then headed to Central Park
Berkley could not have been more happy than he was in the Park. It's funny that we went to one of the world's greatest big cities, and he found himself most happy climbing rocks and running around in the park. Perfect for a 5 year old little guy!
We found the Alice in Wonderland statue for Berkley to climb on...
Delicious lunch on the Upper West Side...
Berkley loved figuring out the subway system and keeping tabs on the map. I was impressed with how quickly he picked it up over the course of a few days...
Before our trip, Berkley was insistent that we see the Statue of Liberty. We decided to see it by taking the Staten Island ferry. So, while we didn't actually walk on the island, Berkley was perfectly happy to see the statue and take a fun boat ride!
After the ferry ride, we headed to the flagship Lego store near the Flatiron building. We let Berk just play and enjoy himself for quite some time. There's a fun building station that includes shelves to display the kiddos' creations.
And wouldn't you know it...Berkley made a friend! These two guys played together for about an hour! They talked about all kinds of things, and tried really hard to arrange a play date! The mom even approached me about meeting them there the following week. It was heartbreaking to tell them that we don't actually live in NYC!
While we were in the Lego store, Stephen stepped outside to take a work phone call. While he was out, he found the greatest treasure- a waffle shop! When he came back in, he sent me out to grab one for myself! A small waffle with strawberries and whipped cream. Yum!
Afterwards, we headed uptown to visit with my college roommate, Abby & meet her sweet baby boy, Jasper! Stephen has always had a way with babies, and Jasper quickly found his new best friend in Stephen!
After dinner, we walked to Abby's apartment, and as the rain fell, and the temperature dropped, I realized just how tough it must be to travel around NYC with a baby and a stroller! Whew! The fact that she spent all winter there with a newborn is super-impressive!
It was so fun to visit Abby's apartment. It also has a gorgeous terrace and view, but the rain kept us from enjoying it...this time!
This gal. Seriously. She is so impressive. She just finished writing her first book- a labor of love that has been in the works for quite a while. She wrote the authorized biography of Joy Davidman- C.S. Lewis's wife. It will be released this August, and I can hardly wait!
Real life- trying to get a family picture with Jasper- this was literally the best picture we got! Ha!
Heading back to the hotel on the subway...
