One Friday, Tait and Maddie came over for a play date. I decided it would be a great opportunity to take the kiddos to do a few acts of kindness around town. We gave some bags of food to some hungry folks on the corners of the streets, then we found our spots outside the post office to spread a little Christmas cheer.
The kids did a great job greeting everyone who walked in the post office and we sang Christmas songs when we were waiting for more folks to come by. As each person walked by Tait or Berkley would hand them a candy cane and say, "Merry Christmas! God bless you!" They made it a tiny bit competitive which seemed to make it even more endearing to the folks we encountered.
I was shocked by how many folks thought we were trying to get something out of passing out candy canes. We had several people offer us money, several folks ask what group we were with, and a few people ask us WHY we were doing something so nice.
It's amazing how such a simple act could lift the spirits of folks who were otherwise preoccupied with the hustle and bustle of the season. The kids had a great time, and I was truly shocked to see what a blessing they were to everyone they encountered!
